Xylotek Takes 1st Canadian Spot, and 3rd Place Overall, in 2010 Best Tech Workplaces

One of the most intriguing Canadian IT services firms continues its pursuit of excellence

July 19, 2010, KITCHENER, ONTARIO – Xylotek Solutions, a full-service, IT consulting firm that has been one of the fastest growing companies in Canada, has placed 3rd overall in the 2010 Best Tech Workplaces awards, and is the number one (and only) Canadian firm selected.

The Xylotek team, from bottom to top, engenders the very best that our highly competitive industry has to offer,” says Douglas W. Grosfield, President and CEO of Xylotek Solutions. “Our end goals never change. We make it simple for our clients to solve their complex business challenges through our expertise and the efficient use of technology, while inspiring our entire team to continue to exceed their personal, familial, and career goals each and every day.”

“We have been very successful and attribute it to creating a sound and aggressive plan, and then following it,” says Grosfield. “We had a strong foundation to begin with and have always taken a preventative approach to how we support our clients, as opposed to the break-and-fix mentality you see with so many companies in our industry.”

Xylotek achieved growth of 126 percent even during the height of the recession and has a number of new clients, including large financial institutions and local players in the software industry. Most of the company’s recent growth has been in its virtualization practice, its application monitoring practice, and its recovery management offering.

Xylotek, which celebrates its fifth anniversary on June 1, has received significant recognition as a technology growth company. For two years running, it made the PROFIT HOT 50 list, which is the definitive ranking of Canada’s Emerging Growth Companies. The ranking, published in PROFIT Magazine and online at PROFITguide.com, ranks young firms by two-year revenue growth. In March of this year, Xylotek was again honoured by the Greater Kitchener Waterloo Chamber of Commerce as a nominee for Business of the Year for firms with under 20 employees. Last year it won the award. Xylotek is also nominated for an RBC Royal Bank Award for Small Business - Business Excellence award in the 28th annual Ontario business Achievement Awards (OBAA) for 2010.

Xylotek was established in 2005 by two local systems engineers – Grosfield and Michael Topp. A third partner, Chris Pickard, joined them one year later.

Xylotek is involved with the Waterloo Region Immigrant Employee Network, which provides internships for immigrants possessing trade skills. As well, it is involved with co-op programs at the University of Waterloo, Wilfrid Laurier University, and Conestoga College. All three institutions offer four-month, work terms for students as part of their programs of study. In addition to being a member of the Kitchener Waterloo Chamber of Commerce, Xylotek is a Titan sponsor of the technology organization Communitech. It actively supports such charities as the Children’s Wish Foundation, Child Find Canada, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation of Canada, The Helping Others Together (HOT) Ride, Prostate Cancer Ride for Dad, and the CIBC Run for the Cure.
